Search Improvements - Part Two

Today we released our second round of search improvements. Now, when you do a bike search, we not only search the bike title, specs, and description, but we also search any tags associated with that bike. This should mean that you get more accurate search results.

We also added search boxes (and sometimes clickable search suggestions too - hooray!) to search results pages, so you can easily perform another quick search. We're thinking about expanding search options near the search box on search results pages, but we weren't sure. We'd love to hear what you guys and gals think and what you'd like to see!

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Ride safe!

Search Improvements - Part One

Today we released a new option that helps immensely in finding the right bikes on Pedal Room - The ability to match all keywords when searching.

This means if you search for "cannondale track" and choose the match all keywords option, only bikes which have both "cannondale" and "track" will be found. Very useful for searching for specific bikes! Stay tuned - more search improvements are coming soon!

Better Photo UI!

We finally finished up our new photo UI and released it a few minutes ago. Gone are the photo comments* and now the photos are loaded inline in the same page, which is faster and allows you to see the bike's details, comments, other photos, and of course, the current photo all in the same page! Let us know what you think!

* Photo comments aren't actually removed. They have been moved to the bike details page. Feel free to go through your bikes and remove any comments that don't make any sense in the context of the bike details page (which shouldn't be too many.)

Simpler Registration!

Starting today, it's going to be a lot easier for new members to add their bikes to Pedal Room.

Instead of going through the full registration form, they can now skip directly to the add a bike form. If they're not logged in, they simply provide a username and email when they're adding their bike and we'll create an account for them.

Hopefully this will encourage more people to join and add their bikes since it's a lot less work to create an account and add a bike now. Pedal Room should then grow faster! Everybody wins!

Planning for the Future

Over the long weekend, we had the opportunity to think and sketch out future ideas for Pedal Room. Here's a little taste of what we're considering doing.

Marketplace

We plan to build out a very simple marketplace where you can sell bikes and bike parts. It's gonna be sweet!

Mobile App

Coomer's already playing with the alpha version of the new Pedal Room mobile app on his iPhone. It will allow you to quickly and easily see what's going on in Pedal Room land. There will also be cool features like finding people and bikes near you. In a new city and looking for people to ride with? Just click the "find nearby" button and contact some nearby cyclists!

Even Better Bike/Member Search

We'll also be rolling out some sweet new search features that will make finding others even easier!

Sharing Options

We want to make it easier to share bikes with the world! Quick access to share URLs, Twitter and Facebook integration, etc.

That's not it, but that's what we're thinking right now. What do you think? Let us know!

Advanced Bike Search Released!

Today we launched something that we've been meaning to build for a while - better bike search. After all, bikes is what we're all about. Now Pedal Room has better bike searching options.

You can search by keywords like you've been able to before, but also by location, and you can choose to sort bikes in various order and show only bikes with photos as well!

One thing we had a lot of fun building that we hope you guys will enjoy is our location search. Say you see some cool bike in Ballard (a neighborhood here in Seattle) and want to find it. You can search for location "Ballard" on the advanced bike search page, choose to sort by distance, and then results will come back not only in Ballard, but also in the neighboring areas. Of course, if you sorted by distance, the bikes closest to your entered location will show up first. See the image below for a rough idea of what we're talking about.

Enjoy the features, and let us know what you think!

Upgraded Tag Clouds and Member Search

We just finished upgrading our tag clouds to make it easier to see what the most popular and least popular tags are. There used to be a ton of tiny tags and one or two large ones, but now tags are better distributed thanks to our new logarithmic algorithm. We hope you guys enjoy it!

Also, we upgraded our member search with an option to search for only members with bikes. We'll be adding a similar option to find only members with photos and sorting options soon, as well as sorting options for bikes and an advanced bike search! Check back often for more features and more great bikes added from all over!

New Bike/Member Browsing Features

We just released some new features that we hope you guys will enjoy! You can now browse bikes by tag, search for members by location as well as name, order member search results, and find everything a bit easier (we hope) with the new navigation menus.

Pretty soon we'll be building an advanced bike search as well as enhanced member searching options, and much more! Let us know what you think, and stay tuned for more updates!
